Over 500 local and independent talking newspapers across the United Kingdom are mainly run by volunteers. They record local news and information into audio format (cassette tapes, CDs, or through the internet) for blind and partially sighted people. Some of these services are now being expanded to physically handicapped people as well.
The Talking News Federation (TNF) is made up of 400 of these local Talking Newspapers (TNs) forming a body to take a long term view of the future, assist with present issues, and deal with issues such as Copyright, Articles for the Blind, and proposed items of legislation and consultation. The TNF Executive Committee consists of a small number of local TN volunteers from across the United Kingdom.
This web site has two sections
The first is for anyone interested in finding out about local Talking Newspapers.
The second section is for members of local Talking Newspapers and Talking Magazines to receive information about the different aspects of managing a local TN or TM. This section has a password and contains details which will be available to members only. This web site will continue to grow and offer different ways to carry out the various tasks that are needed to run a local Talking Newspaper. It is not for the TNF to make decisions on how to run a local Talking Newspaper.

We now hold a Talking Newspaper (TN) and a Talking Magazine (TM) Directory. A link to its pages can be found at the bottom of this page. The Directory is now linked to a map of each TN and TM's approximate location.
This is not a complete listing of all active TNs or TMs throughout the UK, only a listing of those TNs and TMs who have given permission for their details to be displayed on the web site. If you cannot find a TN or TM in your area or are looking for a specific TN or TM that is not listed, please contact us at: enquiries@tnf.org.uk
The inclusion of your TN or TM in this Directory is conditional in that you must give your consent to this inclusion.
