We are Stroud’s Talking Newspaper, established in 1982, and cover Stroud, Stonehouse, Nailsworth, Minchinhampton, Painswick and the surrounding villages. We make audio recordings of the ‘Stroud News & Journal’ and send them out on a weekly basis to blind and partially-sighted people who want to stay in touch with what’s going on in their local community. The newspaper is published on a Wednesday. We have a marvellous team of Readers who read the local news, recorded by a Producer who edits the newspaper and produces the master USB recording. This is then copied onto USB sticks by a volunteer Duplicator who then posts them out, free of charge, to our listeners who are registered blind using the Royal Mail’s ‘Articles for the Blind’ service. We can also supply our listeners with a USB player free of charge if needed – and show you how to use it. In addition to the news from ‘Stroud News & Journal’ the weekly recording also includes short stories, magazine articles and other items of local or national interest.
Our recordings are now available online too for anyone who has difficulty reading print for whatever reason via our website, Amazon Alexa and telephone. Full instructions are given on our website. We always welcome new listeners and people who would like to join our friendly group of volunteers. We are entirely dependent on donations to maintain our service so would welcome your support. If you, or someone you know, would like to receive our recordings please contact us by calling 07882 672 647 (be prepared to leave a message) or via email 5valleysounds@gmail.com
