Eastbourne Talking Newspaper provides news recordings to visually-impaired people in Eastbourne and the surrounding district. We make two weekly recordings, one of extracts from the Eastbourne Herald and Eastbourne Gazette and one of extracts from weekend newspapers. Once a month we produce a magazine which includes interesting articles from a variety of publications. Each recording lasts for 60 minutes. The recordings are made in our studio by teams consisting of one Recorder and three Readers. We have one part-time paid Administrator but all the Recorders, Readers and Editors are voluntary (about 50 volunteers in all). In 2010 we went digital and now record onto memory sticks. We supply boomboxes to our listeners and send out over 700 recordings each month. The service is free to our listeners and is funded solely from voluntary donations.
