Our weekly Talking Newspaper service (which began almost 50 years ago) is just one of the things offered by N-Vision - a visionary blind society in the North-West of the country. Presently, around 50 volunteers record 10 hours or more of audio each week - which is currently sent to about 180 listeners. We support local blind and visually impaired people in several other ways, as well - such as: ● The Low Vision Centre - where an assessment will take place. We’ll speak with visitors about devices, techniques, etc so as to help them cope with low vision. Whether they’re visiting us, or we’re going to meet them at their home, we’ll try to find a way to assist and advise - whatever tasks or activities they might be finding difficult to undertake. ● Activities and social centres - from walks to board games, chair yoga to craft and chat. ● Caregivers - providing services at home (from cleaning and ironing to reading correspondence and shopping) ● Two Charity Shops ● Befriending - for those who require company and conversation. ● Eye Clinic Liaison Officer - providing emotional and practical support to hospital patients, so as to discuss the options available to them when they need it. ● The Princess Alexandra Home - which is a care home for residents with a range of needs, including visual impairments.
