Long Eaton & District Talking Newspaper for the Blind & Partially sighted has been operating since 1978 and has close to 200 listeners within their geographical area that covers Eastwood in the North, Castle Donington in the South, Beeston in the East to Borrowash in the West. They supply their free three weekly audio Newspaper to those who are Blind & Sight impaired and find reading difficult, if not impossible. The LETN has listeners, not only in their geographical area, but also around the world, thanks to their web site www.longeatontn.org.uk that always carries their recordings, as does the Bumblebee App, (product of the British Wireless for the Blind Fund) and also ALEXA thus ensuring that their TN is heard worldwide. To access ALEXA, simply say, “Alexa play MY Talking Newspaper, Long Eaton”. The LETN has 24 volunteers, who operate from their homes, using a variety of devices to record news and current affairs stories. They also have volunteers who carry out all administration of their listeners register, pouches and memory sticks. Their three weekly recordings include 3 hours of local News & Current Affairs and 37 hours of thirteen Magazines Programmes, purchased from the RNIB making up 40 hours of listening pleasure.
