Southend Talking Newspaper began operations in 1978, founded by the Southend Rotary and Inner Wheel Clubs. It became an independent charity in 1980. Rotary and Inner Wheel members from the Southend on Sea, Thorpe Bay and Hadleigh Castle clubs still take part, but as volunteers alongside many other individuals and groups. We record local Southend news on Thursday evening each week. Seven teams of readers take turns to produce the recording on CDs and USB formats which are mailed to listeners the following day. We also produce a magazine edition containing feature articles from a wider range of sources. The service is entirely free and we can also supply a free USB player where required. In addition you can now listen on your phone, laptop and most smart devices.
