Please read these Terms and Conditions (“Terms”) carefully before enabling or using the Talking Newspapers Alexa Skill (“the Skill”). By enabling or using the Skill, you agree to be bound by these Terms. If you do not agree with these Terms, do not use the Skill.

1. Service Overview

The Talking Newspapers Skill allows users to access spoken-word versions of newspaper and magazine content using Alexa-enabled devices. This service is designed specifically for individuals in the United Kingdom who are blind, partially sighted, or otherwise unable to read print material due to a disability (collectively referred to as “print-disabled”).

2. Eligibility

This Skill is available only to:

  • Residents of the United Kingdom.
  • Individuals with a print disability as defined by UK copyright law (e.g., Section 31B of the Copyright, Designs and Patents Act 1988), or caregivers using the service on their behalf.

By using this Skill, you confirm that you or the person for whom you are enabling this Skill meets these criteria.

3. Legal Basis for Content

All audio content is provided under the Equality Act 2010 and related UK copyright exceptions for people with disabilities. This allows accessible format copies to be created and distributed solely for eligible individuals.

4. Personal Use Only

The Skill is intended for personal, non-commercial use by eligible users. You may not reproduce, distribute, publicly perform, or otherwise use the content beyond what is permitted by law and these Terms.

5. Intellectual Property

All content provided through the Skill is the property of its original publishers or the Skill provider. Users are granted a limited, non-transferable, revocable license to access and listen to this content via the Skill for personal use only.

6. Restrictions

You may not:

  • Record, copy, distribute, or store audio from the Skill.
  • Use the Skill for any public or commercial purpose.
  • Modify or attempt to extract the content or interfere with the Skill’s operation.

7. Privacy

The Skill does not collect personal data. Voice commands and interactions are handled by Amazon and governed by Amazon’s privacy policies. We do not store or process any user information.

8. Availability & Service Limitations

We strive to keep the Skill accessible but do not guarantee uninterrupted service. Content may be updated, changed, or removed at any time without notice.

9. Disclaimer of Warranties

The Skill and content are provided “as is” and “as available” without warranties of any kind, including but not limited to implied warranties of fitness for a particular purpose or non-infringement.

10. Limitation of Liability

To the extent permitted by law, the Skill provider shall not be liable for any damages arising from use of or inability to use the Skill, including indirect or consequential damages.

11. Modifications to Terms

We may update these Terms at any time. Any changes will be effective once posted. Continued use of the Skill after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the new Terms.
